superrecursivity

It's often assumed that computations must "give useful results for someone" and that computation can be regarded as terminating when giving the result. However, since this have not always been seen to be true (take life on earth for example) Mark Burgin believes the church-turing thesis is wrong. is it worth while to analyze computations where no result is defined/determinable?

Haskell based introdution

majkel on Fri Dec 21 11:56:50 2007 #
to category theory

A very good discussion

majkel on Fri Dec 21 00:41:32 2007 #
of categories. The following is section 5 of a paper explaining how to unify physics, it gives a nice and short intro to category theory.

Brainstorming

about machine learning and category theory in: The n-Category Café.

On the Haskell

majkel on Thu Dec 20 09:30:54 2007 #
wiki there is a good introduction to category theory.

I haven't read these

majkel on Thu Dec 20 01:33:09 2007 #
publications yet, but they seem to revolve around the things I'm interested in. For instance I now view category theory to be very similar to my intuition about observers. Several years ago when I wanted to do my "c-uppsats" (candidate level paper) in mathematics I heard about categories it just seem to be a very abstract tool in mathematics, but since "my first axiom" about observation is that it needs, or even is the generator of, the possibility of change, I have come to the view that mathematics is the theory of change. If so mathematics cannot be platonic, or ultimately viewed as describing mathematical objects. If change is fundamental, then an object most likely is an static description of (regular or common types of) change. You can view an observer to be a process able to refer to change. This is in fact a very easy explanation or motivation for my theory of Observers. Initially I've always wanted to formalize this theory in terms of music, so the cycle C=(tonic-> subdominant -> dominant) has always been prime candidate elements of my pre-formalized theory. You can view this cycle to be just (beginning -> middle -> end). Categories can also be viewed as being built out of such a notion of cycle; it relies heavily on drawing pictures made of arrows. Hence I'm probably just have to learn category theory to make personal progress on the in my view vital problems.

In the paper "The Constructed Objectivity of Mathematics and the Cognitive Subjectivity", see the first link above, Giuseppe Longo writes :

" Mankind in its historical existence has been giving to itself a rich variety of forms of
knowledge, exactly because the phenomenal world presents itself in different forms. It is
too early, if ever possible, to pick up a method and propose it as absolute. "

Well, this is my goal and so therefore I have been reluctant to abandon my interest. I'm convinced there is such a method, mostly because of the very common fault Longo's argument seem to illustrate - any reference (that is anything on the scale between name and description) is produced by an observer; hence Longo confuse the product made by some producer with that producer. This error is why realism is just bullshit. Now there is an "reality", but it is related to the producer, not to the products he/she/it produce.

FSHARP and VISUAL STUDIO!

Now while F# has good visual studio support it doesn't work on the free express versions. But now you can download Visual Studio 2008 Shell, which makes you fsharping the nice way. For those that don't yet know what F# is I just wanna say that googling fsharp or f# will give insights to the future - F# is Microsoft's version/implementation of a very good functional language called Ocaml. You must learn it!!!!

I'm not falsified!

majkel on Thu Nov 22 23:03:10 2007 #
My theory of observers is something I hate sometimes, because I probably wont gain anything from it. I'm a bit theoretical when it comes to results - if I feel I'm right, then I'm satisfied.

But a very nice support for my theory has been established! My theory can be said to have two states and three colors and since I claim human intelligence is described by my theory there should exist very competent systems this small. As it now turns out, the smallest possible universal Turing machine is one with two states and three colors! I have predicted this for years and it's seems to be true! Hence I can't resist working on my theory anymore. Which is going to torment me plenty because I am sinking rapidly into complete economic and self loathing hell. Trying to be focused with panic in my system is not healthy for me.

Give me a job!

majkel on Thu Nov 22 22:47:29 2007 #
I have not been able to get a job after my projects at the Mid Sweden University ended a couple of years ago. Although I still work to produce something, I also have to deal with the pains of not being chosen - I can't even get jobs which demands only high school maths (I can't get jobs as a dishwasher even ... ). I studied mathematics because I had to know what it was about and because I figured that very few people are prepared to invest the time mathematics demands. The last project I was involved in did not even give me the data I needed, so failure was hard to avoid. So my studies only meant that I for a while was allowed to compete with others on equal terms - If I wrote higher scores than most other on exams, everyone could see it, including me. Of course I had to borrow money to get this chance.

FI

majkel on Mon Nov 19 08:01:39 2007 #
